Koosalli waterfalls

The Koosalli falls, a clear long white line in a hillok of the western Ghats attract travellers regularly on the National Highway between Byndoor and Bhatkal.

Koosalli falls, in coastal Karnataka, has three to six stages and is also called Toodalli or Soodalli.

The main fall is at a height of over 250ft. Water collects between the second and third falls and looks like huge swimming pools but it is not advisasble to enter the water.

One has to walk from Kallikone, 4km from Koosalli village, to the falls. The fall has three stages. Though the lowermost stage is easily easily accessible only in the post-monsoon season. That too only by the experienced trekkers only.
How to Reach:
Shiroor is located top of the Udupi district nearly 70km from Udupi. There are many busues from Mangalore, Udupi and Bhatkal to Shiroor check post. From Shiroor check post you will get bus to Koosalli village, If you are coming by your own vehicle then no problem. From Koosalli village you have to walk 4km, Better to hire one guide from the Koosalli village.

Kumara Parvatha (Pushpagiri)

.........On 24th of feb 2008 one of my senior classmate Vinod generated one idea to go to trek somewhere in Coorg side but crraaap!!!! he gotta play cricket in Somavarpet !!! vinod missed!!!!! How ever later myself got an idea to go to KUMARA PARVATAwell !!! I have visited most of the trekking spots in South Canara region but was not yet trekked KP(I will be using kumara parvat as KP in my whole blog)many of my friends had been asking me about this KP but i could not able to answer them as i never visited there .. Finally we decided to go to KP one of the highest peak in Karnataka.27,28feb our campus fest ..oh we enjoyed,danced,shouted,whistled....a lot on both days.we were so tired by dancing but still we didnt step back by the idea of going to trek on 1st march as we decided earlier...Myself Gokul ,Murali,Donald,Subbu,Chethan,Vinay and Sachin .this was our troup who planned to go to trek but unfortunately Sachin did not come due to some problems.Me and Murali left Mangalore KSRTC bus stand at 7am bus.wow really i wanna say something about our KSRTC bus but.... leave this matter .Our other friends joined our group in BC road .we reached Puttur at 9.15 .There was one bus which goes to Subrahmanya in Puttur we boarded the bus but we did not get the seats oh!!! we shocked there by hearing from driver still 3hours we have to sit in bus to reach Subrahmanya GOD! How ever we reached Subrahmanya at 12.15pm First we rushed towards hotel since we were hell!! feeling hungry. We carried atleast 1.5ltrs water each and At 1.45 we started our journey .After walking on reddish road for about 1 and half kms we found one board showing left side to the trekkers in which route we have to go,for most of them that board looks like an hour walk to reach the destination!!!!Our climb had just begun !!!soon we were in the dence forest where the sun rays rarely reach the bed of the forest. On the way we struggled a lot especially me tired a lot our food where we had in Subrahmanya was empty and went away from us within 1 and half hours. If you are doubt that you have lost the path there are many arrow marks on the path till the final destination . we all were thinking samething like why the hell!!!!! we have come here(just for a while we thought like this)Because of bloody heavy luggage and burning sun our largest part of organ was started to sweat. finally we reached Girigadde.Girigadde is famous for girigadde Bhatru(i too Bhatru only)i dont remember his name .He is living here for the past 32years . The trekkers who pass this way generally come over here and have some rest .we had a awesome food here with mango pickle and drunk enough buttermilk and filled bottels too which bought us some energy to think what is next.As Bhat mom advised we decisived to stay in Kallu mantapa which was 2 and half hour still more journey to reach that place where water resource is available .first we faced one forest guard camp .one young forest guard was siiting there .he demanded us to pay 115rps per each but we bargained him by saying we are from tourism department of Mangalore university and(actually true)then he came up till 250rs overall .Around 6 we reached that Kallu mantapa .. wow there was excellent water resource.one who wants to take bath can take bath here.we had enough time to collect materials to make fire camp as we knew that night will be chill.we collected a load of dry woods and fired it woooow fire on the hill that too in chill night... mmmm we all sung a song and shared our experience of our North India's tour and jokes.Later we had Chapathi s (we parcelled chapathi from hotel in Subrahmanya)Later we dicisived to halt on Kallu mantapa... ... Night was very very cold. thank God i had taken a big bedsheet which was not totally disallowing the cold wind but it was like OK.In our bedroom(mantapa) Donald and Subbu started to tell jokes gags about our campus, ladies hostel,GT and for a while i was hearing the conversation of Subbu and Donald then slowly i entered the dream world . Our night was not too bad .we were successfull in passing the night.Morning after finishin the naturecall and daily morning works we started our journey towards the summit, since we stayed one side of the hill we were missed to watch the beautiful sunrise ....It was very tough to reach the top point of the hill from where we stayed .One orange colour flag is there on the top of the hill. This hill seems to be the last point from Subrahmanya but actually still 1 and half hour journey was ahead of us.On the way one funny thing happened .since i was wearing red colour t-shirt one buffalo was eating gross ,standing across our way .my friends passed it without hesitatoin but me oh god it was staring at me and in the position to hit me ha ha (i gussed)i was thinking about bull fight in Norway and Sweden suddenly i removed my shirt and showed that buffalo like invite that to fight with me .our friends were laughing and they moved. What about me !!!! with fear i took another way to join our friends. After moving furlong of the way only i felt relax. Finally we reached the top of the KP hurray!!!!!!! noooooo ....here only i mentioned hurray but there we came to know by other trekkers that still more way is yet to be walked to reach the top of Pushpagiri hill .we had almost lost our hopes to reach the summit where we saw a thick forest ahead of us.The guys who were from PA engineering college (our neighbour college) stayed night at Bhatru mane but some of the guys already reached to the point of KP oh god !!! we surprised and thought how speed they are in trekking. Finally we decided to move towards Pushpagiri .when we entered the jungle we felt bit life in us and got fresh air to breath easily we passed that jungle.we almost stopped our breath when we hit a giant 70 degree rock which was about 50ft height .we confused where we are heading .With difficulty we climbed that rock and took some snaps to show our friends.ABBA!!!!!! finally hum pahunch gaye........just 250mtr walk from the giant rock to reach the top point we were in the top most part of Pushpagiri hill .There was one small shrine where Lord Shiva's Linga is kept .We had Chapathi with jam and pickle then all started talk through thier mobile phone with thier female friends ,i was busy with taking snaps of the place, subbu was singing song loudly ,donald as ususually talking with his friend(obviously girl)and other were roaming here and there .After few minuts we left the place. We thought of having food in Bhtra mane but while climbing down we got express power to our legs especially me.our friends were teasing me by telling ' slow trekker ' as i was always lagging behind while trekking but while getting down i was like rocket .we croseed Bhatramane at around 12 so moved and did not go to have food in bhatra mane as we thought with in 1.30 we will reach our final destination .My leg got twisted where still 3km ahead to end up our trekking ...All of my friends left me and moved further this was the thing which made me to feel bad of our group.Iwas not so injured therefore with tricky i reached Subrahmanya at 1.45 where except Vinay all reached around 1 o clock. But later onwards i started to feel the deep of injurness ,it started aching.myself alone had food in the hotel later i met all. Finally at 6.30 i reached home .This was our adventure to KP and Pushpagiri .Apart from my leg pain(still it is paining)all other thing was good.excellent trekking spot worth trekking paradise of Karnataka.

Do's and Dont's.......

*Kumara parvat is located in Pushpagiri santuary one has to take permission to enter this .You will get permission in ,Deputy conservator of forestMangalore territorial divisionMangalore.*Otherwise if u are trekking from Kukke Subrahmanya Ull get information from the localiets of Kukke Subrahmanya.

*Via Subrahmanya to Pushpagiri and KP it is approximately 13km way ,from Subrahmanya to Girigadde 3 and half journey is there from Girigadde to Mantapa 2and half hour journey from Mantapa to top point again 2 and half hour journey.

*Kukke subrahmanya is located in Sullya taluk, south canara Which is 105km from Mangalore via Puttur-Kaniyoor or Uppinangadi-Kadaba or Puttur -Sullya.

*Roads are not in good condition,In monsoon it will be terrible.

*Bus accesible from Mangalore,Uppinangadi and Dharmasthala is frequent.

*if your group is having more number of people and planning to have food in Girigadde Bhatra mane better you inform Bhatru before u start to trek (note:Girigadde bhatru's mobile no.9448647947)

*One who starts from Somarpet side (i dont have much idea of this route since i have not gone throgh this route)First you have to go to Beedehalli(Bidalli) village which accesible from somarpet .You can go to Mallalli falls which comes on the way to Pushpagiri from Bidalli.

*You will get food only in Girigadde bhatru mane or else no single person is leaving around the KP therefore u have to carry food.

*Better to halt on the top of the hill or near Kallumantapa .Night wiil be too cold throgh out the year so better to carry sleeping bags or tents.

*water you will get near kallumantapa (during summer sometimes there may not be water) Then You will get water near the giant rock after the KP but most of them do not know whether water is available in this place therefore defenately during summer the pond which is near to the Top point will be empty.

Shivanasamudra falls

I was not really in the plan to go to shivansamudram again in sumer since i have gone to that place before in summer when i could not see the real glory of the falls but my brothe forced to go Shivanasamudra only. 3oth May 20o9 late morning 11.oo we means myself Gokul, my brother Goverdhan and his wife Vidya started journey by indica . First place we visited Bluff falls that is also called Gaganachukki falls, located in Shivanasamudra(Shimsha). Falls was like that only when i visited last time in summer, No water no water !!!!!!! even my brother is disappointed by seeing very less water in the falls. My brother wanted to get down near the falls but it was not allowed, We had food near Gaganachukki only . only one hotel is available near the falls.Next we visited to Bharachukki falls which is 14km far from the bluff falls. Bharachukki falls where tourist can easily go to base point of the falls. First we have to get down in steps where we will reach the banks of the river Kaveri then from there we have to hire the small round shape boat (local name is "Theppa") From there to the base point of the falls is just 200mtrs where we can also have the bath (only in summer) That was really amaging to go by "theppa" to the base point of the falls then taking bath under the falls ... We paid 100rs for 3 person for theppa ,if you are taking bath then you have to pay 50rs extra. but dont miss it!!!! In rainy season we can not approach near the falls but we can see the awesome breathtaking view of the falls. From Bharachukki we went to Somanathpur but 17.30 is the clossing time of the somanathpur ,we reached there at 17.15 so we could not get time to see the temple's beautiful carving, though we took some of the photos of the temple. It was already 18.00 by the time we left the somanathpur. We reached Mysore at 19.00 so ended our tour with good memories

  • Only one hotel near the falls for food.
  • Number of rooms available near the falls is very least and not in well condition therefore one day picnic to this place advaisable.
  • In shivanasamudra there are two falls one is Bharachukki another one is Gaganachukki located just 13kms distance.
  • Shivanasamudra also called as Shimsha , Bluff falls.
  • There are many routes towards Somanathpur and Thalakadu from Malavalli, Bannur and Kollegal-Malavalli road.

Distance from Mysore:

  • Shivanasamudra-74km
  • somanathpur-45km
  • Thalakadu-46km
  • Bharachukki-85km
  • Malavalli-Thalakadu30km
  • Bannur-somanathpur 8km

Driving direction from Mysore to Shivanasamudra no.1:

  • Mysore-Bannur 25km,Bannur-Malavalli 32km,Take kollegal road from Malavalli to Shivanasamudra 8km,You can see the direction left towards Falls 10km.

Driving direction from Mysore to Shivanasamudra no.2:

  • Mysore-Maddur 75km, Maddur Malavalli 22km,From Malavallli the same route as taken from no.1 route

From Bangalore one can also come till Maddur in highway then can take no.2 route which is in the above.

Another route is from Bangalore-kollegal highway take left from the place where you can see the direction sign board after the Malavalli. Malavalli-Bangalore 107km, Malavalli-Shivanasamudra 18km

Best time to visit in Monsoon
